Londinium | Hackney
We did more train tootling, this time to the big city, Londinium, to visit some of the places used in the book. There was a serious dearth of flowers but enough greenery to make up for that.
One location frequently mentioned in the book is The Premises Studios. The book's protagonist gets a job there, prepping rooms, managing day-to-day flotsam and jetsam and doing the other work-based shenanigans required by a busy music studio. Although the site of the original studio was a few hops'n'skips down the road it was rather nostalgic to go back.
Hackney was actually bloody lovely, full of leafy green parks, kids playing tennis, a wonderful outdoor market and very little in the way of graffiti or vandalism. I was assured this wasn't always the case 30 years ago. There was one odd and sinister occurence tho'; what looked like a severed leg mounted to the top of someone's roof.
I mean, respectfully, what the actual eff is this?
